Looking to elevate your reporting? Perhaps Yardi standard financial statements don’t cut it for your internal or external KPIs or dashboards. Or maybe you need to create custom financial reports for an owner or investor. Regardless of why you need Yardi custom financial reporting, you need it, and you needed it yesterday. Not to fear; our 4 steps to create custom Yardi reporting is here!
Here’s how to quickly create a custom account tree in Yardi. Custom account trees enable you to group general ledger accounts in the groups and subgroups that you define. You can also format financial reports however you like.
First, export one of the default Yardi account trees (or another account tree) as your base template. The location of this differs by Yardi instance. You should be able to search “account trees” and select “Edit/Review Account Trees”. Be sure that you’re in the correct role.

Save that template. Then make a copy. Edit the new copy as your updated template. Formatting can be tricky, so be prepared for a lot of troubleshooting.
Upload the newly edited template as a new account tree. The location of this also differs by Yardi instance. Like before, you should be able to search “account tree” and select “Add New Account Tree.”
Run your report using that account tree to ensure that you captured all accounts and formatting.
You may create a custom account tree by individually selecting each general ledger account. We do not recommend this method. The manual method is excruciatingly slow and prone to human error. If you do try it, you can expect to slowly morph from Winnie the Pooh into his best (and chronically sad) friend, Eeyore. We’ll still hang out with you, but we won’t be able to make you happy.
If new account trees still don’t get you the custom Yardi reporting that you need, that’s why we built CREx. Check out our website for more information. We love hearing about your unique strategies and custom Yardi reporting. Schedule some time with us here. Look forward to meeting you!
